IllustrationA large-scale Ukrainian drone attack took place overnight Tuesday in the Moscow region, which surrounds Russia’s capital. One person was killed and six others were injured, while Russian authorities said hundreds of unmanned aircraft moved toward the area throughout the night.
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said that no fewer than 650 drones headed toward the Moscow region between late evening and morning. According to him, most were intercepted by Russia’s air defense systems, with 105 shot down as they approached Moscow itself.
Overnight, monitoring channels reported that the drones reached the region from several directions and in multiple waves at the same time. Against the backdrop of widespread aerial activity, air defense systems in the area were activated in an effort to intercept the aircraft.
Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobyov said that a 20-year-old man was killed in the town of Radomlya, in the Solnechnogorsk district. Six other people were injured. Local authorities also reported a fire that broke out as a result of the attack, as well as damage to about 10 private homes, additional buildings, and vehicles. The scale of the launches makes the incident one of the largest attacks recorded in the Russian capital region in recent months.
