The site is located inside Mount Pickaxe (Kuh-e Kolang Gaz La), near the Natanz uranium enrichment facility.
According to the reports, U.S. intelligence currently believes the newly identified underground complex was excavated at an even greater depth than the Fordow nuclear facility. Construction reportedly began after a 2020 sabotage operation widely attributed to Israel. Recent satellite images indicate that Iran has continued to reinforce and fortify the site, despite the memorandum of understanding signed with the United States last month.
Trump: "Mount Pickaxe Is a Possible Target"
President Donald Trump said overnight that the United States could strike the Iranian nuclear facility beneath Mount Pickaxe.
"We're going to take out Mount Pickaxe," Trump said during an interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt. "Tell the Iranians to be ready. Let them know we're on our way, and there's nothing they can do about it."
Hewitt asked Trump whether he would insist that inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) be allowed to enter the mountain's deep tunnels before signing any new agreement with Iran, in order to verify that no hidden "doomsday machine" was being concealed there.
"Absolutely," Trump replied. "They don't have it, because we have eyes — with the Space Force and everything else. We have a lot of eyes on it. But the mountain is a possible target for one big, fat strike right through the front door. I think you may see that happen."
Trump also said the United States would continue its military campaign against Iran.
"We're taking away their capabilities, and we'll finish the job when we control the Strait of Hormuz," he said. "The Iranians acted foolishly. We're hitting them hard, and we're going to keep doing it. The blockade applies only to Iran and restricts only those doing business with them. The Iranians are crazy — we're not going to tolerate it. They made a deal with us, and they broke it at least ten times."
