Trump Pushes Back at NYC Mayor: “Netanyahu Will Not Be Arrested”

President Donald Trump addressed today (Monday) the threats by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani to work toward the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

In a post he wrote this evening on his Truth account, the U.S. president made clear that “Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will not be arrested in any way in the United States. The only people who should be arrested are the people who led Iran into the spiral of destruction and death.”

“He is fighting against the Islamic Republic, which recently killed 52,000 innocent protesters and has spent the last 47 years killing American soldiers and others. The only people who should be arrested are the people who led Iran into this unprecedented tailspin of death and destruction — something previous presidents should have dealt with years ago!”

As previously reported, Mamdani told The New York Times the day before yesterday that he is working to bring about Netanyahu’s arrest, ahead of the prime minister’s expected trip to the city for the U.N. General Assembly this coming September. Mamdani said he is in “active discussions” with the city’s legal department.

“I believe Prime Minister Netanyahu’s place is in The Hague. He is a war criminal who was charged by the International Criminal Court. That is a view many people hold, simply because of what his actions have caused over the course of these many recent years,” the New York City mayor said.

The Prime Minister’s Office responded: “The fake arrest warrant issued by the court against the prime minister was handed down by the disgraced former prosecutor, Karim Khan, just days before the allegations against him of inappropriate conduct became public knowledge.”

“The filing of arrest warrants against Netanyahu and then-Defense Minister Yoav Gallant was a clear attempt by Khan to divert public attention and seek protection from criticism. Under Prime Minister Netanyahu’s leadership, Israel took unprecedented steps during wartime to minimize harm to civilians while confronting Hamas, a genocidal terror organization that uses Palestinians as human shields and deliberately targets innocent Israeli civilians.”

Regarding Mamdani, the statement said that “like Karim Khan, Mamdani appears interested in diverting public attention from his delusions and attacking the leader of the Jewish state and the only democracy in the Middle East. Instead of supporting Khan’s criminal conduct, Mr. Mamdani should focus on repairing the damage his policies have caused New York.”
