Rafael’s SPYDER Air Defense System Successfully Intercepts Drones in New Test

Rafael announced today (Thursday) that it has completed a successful test of its SPYDER system using advanced I-DERBY missiles. The test included the successful interception of drones with a low radar signature in a complex operational scenario. Rafael says the system was updated based on lessons from the war in Israel and operational experience gained in other arenas around the world.

The mobile air defense system combines heat-seeking "Python 5" missiles with radar-guided "Derby" missiles. The company said that several types of threats were intercepted during the tests, including drones with a low radar signature, in a challenging operational scenario, achieving direct and precise hits.

Rafael added that the SPYDER system has transformed Rafael’s air-to-air missiles into an air defense system. So far, the system has been sold to India, the Czech Republic, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Georgia. Only recently, a major $2 billion deal was signed to sell it to Romania, while the Greek government approved its purchase alongside David’s Sling and Barak MX in a deal with a total value of $4 billion.
