"Get Out of Here": Mamdani Leaves Stage After Being Booed

On Tuesday, Midland Beach Promenade in Staten Island, New York, hosted a "National Night Out Against Crime" event. The gathering drew some 3,500 residents and families who came to support police activity and mark cooperation with the community. But for New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, the evening's central moment became one of his most embarrassing since taking office.

During the event, Mamdani was met with boos and insults from some participants. According to a report in the "New York Post," as soon as the mayor took the stage to address the crowd, nonstop boos rang out.

The Staten Island event was one of more than 70 "National Night Out Against Crime" events held that evening across New York City. Their goal was to strengthen cooperation between police and residents and foster a sense of safety in the city's neighborhoods through community gatherings. But while other locations maintained a festive, friendly atmosphere, the Staten Island event became the scene of loud protest against the mayor, ending with his early exit from the stage.

Videos shared on social media show participants shouting, "Get out of here," while others gave him thumbs-down gestures in protest. Within moments, the atmosphere shifted from festive to hostile, and the calls from the crowd prevented the mayor from continuing his speech as planned.

Although Mamdani is known for enjoying public appearances and lengthy speeches, this time he was forced to cut his remarks unusually short. After less than a minute onstage, he managed to say only, "Good and happy night against crime," before leaving the area accompanied by police officers.
