Israelis in Greece Warned of Pro-Palestinian "Day of Rage" Protests

Israel’s Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem issued a warning today (Sunday) to Israelis and Jews staying in Greece. The announcement said that demonstrations and protest rallies are expected to take place today at dozens of locations across Greece—including Athens, Thessaloniki, the islands, and various tourist destinations—amid the war in Gaza.

Given the expected scale of the protests and the possibility of large gatherings and public disturbances, the Foreign Ministry recommends that Israeli citizens staying in Greece exercise increased caution, stay away from protest sites and gatherings, and avoid any friction or confrontation with demonstrators.

Travelers are advised to keep Israeli and Jewish identifiers out of sight and avoid posting their real-time location on social media. They should follow announcements from local authorities and the media, stay updated on developments, and comply with instructions from local security forces.

The Ministry of Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism also warned of preparations for a "Day of Rage" in Greece. According to a ministry report, activists and local groups have been called upon to organize demonstrations urging the Greek government to end its cooperation with Israel in military, economic, and diplomatic matters.

Among other issues, protest organizers cited the Golden Visa program and the real estate market, the arrival in Greece of tourists who served in the IDF, deals with Israeli defense companies and systems, and the use of the Souda base and other Greek bases.

Activists were called upon to "fill the islands, cities, and rural areas with Palestinian flags and slogans, and to organize activities in places where they are staying for work or vacation."

Among the main locations where large demonstrations are expected: Bear Bones, a gathering that includes walking between the various events to a partisan hideout on Mount Kaimaktsalan, a discussion of the Palestinian issue, singing Palestinian songs, planning activities for the rest of the summer, and cleaning a historic trail in the area.

Panagitsa (Panagitsa), a gathering with Palestinian flags, the distribution of informational materials, and a march toward the beach. During the day, the Israeli cruise ship Crown Iris is expected to dock in the town, which could bring increased attention to the ship’s arrival and raise the likelihood of passengers being harassed.

The Diaspora Ministry emphasized that a demonstration with Palestinian flags and the distribution of informational materials will take place in Athens at 6:30 p.m. Based on similar action days seen in Greece in the past, the Athens demonstration is expected to be the most prominent, attracting a larger number of protesters and posing a greater risk to Israeli tourists in the area.
