Omer Adam’s Mother on His Wedding: “I Prayed for This Moment”

Sharon Adam, mother of Israeli singer Omer Adam and leader of the “Choosing Unity” initiative, is calling for a profound change in Israel’s public discourse. In an interview with B’Sheva, she spoke about her work to promote unity among the Jewish people and shared her tremendous excitement ahead of her eldest son’s wedding.

“I Prayed for This Moment”

“For a long time, I prayed for this moment, to stand under the chuppah with my son Omer,” she shares.

“I prayed at the tziyon of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, I prayed at Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai and at Rabbi Meir Baal HaNes, and I asked the Creator of the World to do what only He knows how to do. I asked that He find my dear eldest son the woman of his heart, his life partner from the root of his soul, simply, easily, at the right time and in the right way.

“Each time, I reminded myself that I don’t really know what is right, who is right, or when the time is right. Only the Creator of the World knows.”

Alongside her excitement over her son’s upcoming wedding, Sharon is working tirelessly to bring people closer together.

“Precisely because of the hatred between brothers and everything we have gone through in recent years, the need for healing is much greater,” she explains. “I am working with all my strength for unity, out of a sense of mission and idealism, and with the understanding that Jerusalem was destroyed because of baseless hatred.”

“There Is a Deep Thirst to Return to Our Roots”

Speaking about unity among the Jewish people, Sharon said she believes there is also a growing desire to reconnect with Judaism and faith.

“There is a very deep thirst to return to our roots, to tradition, to return to the Creator of the World. There is an understanding that something here is bigger than us. Every day, I say thank you to Hashem.

“Young children feel it. Children know what’s real, and today they are asking for a kippah and tzitzit.”

Sharon also pointed to the experiences of hostages held in Gaza as an example of people turning to faith in moments of profound darkness.

“Even the hostages in the tunnels, who had previously been the biggest skeptics, say that there in the darkness they spoke with Hashem for the first time in their lives.

“So what does that mean? That there is a Divine spark from Above within all of us.”

For Sharon, the desire for greater unity and the growing connection to faith are deeply intertwined. After years marked by division and pain, she believes the Jewish people are searching for something deeper: a return to their roots, to one another, and to Hashem.
