Israeli Man Who Recently Visited Congo Hospitalized Over Suspected Ebola Infection

The Health Ministry said today (Tuesday) that an Israeli man has been hospitalized at Soroka Medical Center on suspicion that he may have contracted the Ebola virus. The man returned to Israel several days ago after visiting the Democratic Republic of Congo, and sought medical treatment after developing a high fever.

According to the Health Ministry’s statement, the patient is currently being treated under strict isolation conditions, and at this stage it is only a suspicion. The necessary tests have been sent to laboratories, and results are expected within the next 24 hours. At the same time, an epidemiological investigation has begun to identify contacts.

The report comes amid an Ebola outbreak in recent months in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. Throughout this period, the Health Ministry has held situation assessments, and the system has prepared for every possible scenario.

Health Ministry Guidance for the Public

Travel warning: The ministry again urges people to avoid nonessential travel to areas with active cases, especially Congo and Uganda. Travelers who need to visit these areas are invited to seek individual guidance at travel clinics.

Guidance for those returning from high-risk areas: Travelers who have returned from Congo or Uganda and develop a fever or unusual symptoms within 21 days of their return are asked not to go independently to clinics or hospitals. They should stay home, avoid contact with others, and immediately call the “Kol HaBriut” health hotline at *5400. During the call, they should state explicitly that they were in an area with active cases.
