Zoom Security Flaw Let Hackers Take Control of Computers

An American cybersecurity company called A Security has uncovered a serious security vulnerability in the Zoom calling app. News 14 reported this today (Wednesday). The flaw allowed attackers to take control of users’ devices without raising suspicion.

According to the security company, this was a “zero-click” vulnerability that exploited Zoom’s screen-annotation mechanism. Because the software automatically analyzes all information it receives while the feature is in use, a sophisticated attacker could send a specially crafted message that disrupts the computer’s memory and runs malicious code on it. The direct communication channel created in the app between the presenter and viewers made it possible to target each participant individually.

Security researchers said they were able to identify the vulnerability in less than 24 hours using tools and artificial intelligence. The company added that Zoom released an official fix that completely blocks this vulnerability. Still, to make sure you are protected and not exposed to takeover attempts, all you need to do now is go to the app store or the software settings on your computer and update Zoom to the latest version as soon as possible.
