Trump addressed the pause in talks with Iran and again stressed that action must be taken to ensure Iran does not have nuclear weapons. In his words, “If Iran gets nuclear weapons, it will use them, and therefore it needs to give them up and must not have such weapons.”
The American president added: “The Strait of Hormuz opened last night, and many ships passed through it. The strait is in our hands; we have complete control over it. That is, aside from their ability to harass, and they do have the ability to harass when they occasionally fire a drone. Still, ships are passing through, and over the past two weeks, a large amount of oil has left from there. It is not perfect, but a large amount of oil is leaving from there.”
Asked whether the United States would return to negotiations with Iran, he replied: “Maybe at some point, but right now I think the situation is not so good.”
On another matter, Trump confirmed a report that he is expected to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. In his words, “I get along with him very well. He will be fine as long as we have a smart president. He will be fine. If we have a stupid president, then he probably will not be so funny anymore.”
