For a lovely nature activity to enjoy with the kids, create a picture from real flowers. It combines an outdoor adventure with a fun craft project.
What You’ll Need
A piece of cardboard
Wide, clear tape
Scissors
Flowers, petals, and small leaves
Markers for decorating the frame, optional
How to Make It
Draw a large rectangle on the cardboard and cut out the center, leaving only the outer frame.
Turn the frame over and place strips of clear tape across the back, side by side, until the entire opening is covered.
Turn the frame back over. You should now have a clear, sticky surface in the center.
Head outdoors and collect flowers, petals, grasses, and small leaves.
Press the items directly onto the clear sticky surface, arranging them into a picture, pattern, or colorful design.
When you are finished, you can place another layer of clear tape over the flowers, with the sticky side facing inward. This will preserve them between two transparent layers.
Decorate the cardboard frame if you like, then hang your creation near a window so the light can shine through it.
Important: Whenever possible, use flowers and leaves that have already fallen to the ground. Encourage children to respect nature and avoid picking plants specifically for the project.
