Israel Approves Advanced Anti-Drone Systems for Gaza and Lebanon Borders

Israel’s political leadership approved the IDF’s recommendation to deploy an advanced system for intercepting drones and unmanned aerial vehicles along the Gaza Strip border and the Lebanon border, the Walla news site reported today (Tuesday). An additional system will be placed in a third area, whose location remains classified.

According to the report, this is a new Israeli system developed in recent years. The decision followed security assessments and concerns that terrorist organizations could deploy explosive drones and incendiary kites. The system is designed to protect bases, military posts, secured compounds, and sensitive sites.

The system includes advanced sensors that operate both day and night, allowing for early detection of small drones. A security official said the system can disrupt the operating frequencies of a hostile drone, bring it down to the ground, or send it back to its launch point. It can be installed on vehicles and is designed for rapid deployment in the field.

Approval for the systems’ deployment was granted following a discussion held yesterday and chaired by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with the participation of Defense Minister Israel Katz, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, major generals, and intelligence officials. The move comes amid Hamas’s recent attempts to launch kites toward communities near the Gaza border, apparently to test the possibility of resuming explosive-kite attacks.
