The IDF announced on Thursday that it had killed Ismail Muhammad Ibrahim Barim, a commander in the military wing of the Hamas terror organization. According to the military’s statement, Barim was involved in holding Idan Alexander, Matan Zangauker, and Avera Mengistu captive.

The strike that killed Barim was carried out on Wednesday in the Khan Younis area. The IDF said that as part of his role in Hamas, the terrorist held the three Israelis captive inside a tunnel in the southern Gaza Strip.

The military also said that in recent months, Barim had been working to advance terror plans aimed at harming IDF forces and Israeli civilians. At the same time, he sought to rebuild the capabilities of the Hamas terror organization. The IDF noted that these activities were carried out in systematic violation of the ceasefire. In light of his recent activity and the threat he posed, the IDF decided to eliminate him.

Barim’s killing comes as IDF forces under Southern Command continue to be deployed in the area in accordance with the agreement. Alongside that deployment, the military stressed that its forces will continue to act against immediate threats to them and to Israeli civilians.
