The IDF is stepping up preparations for the possibility of a surprise Iranian attack against Israel, following attacks carried out by Iran against U.S. Army bases in Jordan. Israel’s security establishment is preparing for a range of scenarios, including one in which Israel would be required to respond on its own, alongside the possibility of joint action with American forces.

A senior security official said today, Wednesday, that the Operations Directorate has for a long time been at its highest level of defensive readiness and is preparing for possible scenarios across all fronts. In light of the latest regional developments, the head of the Operations Directorate instructed General Staff bodies to prepare as well for a scenario in which the Iranians attempt to catch Israel by surprise and attack. In such a case, the IDF is preparing for the possibility that it will be required to respond independently, as well as for a scenario in which the response is carried out together with the United States.

Alongside the operational preparations, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir continues to regularly update the plans. The IDF stressed that every few days, he fine-tunes the operational plans in both defense and offense, and approves the necessary improvements in accordance with developments.

The Intelligence Directorate is also engaged in ongoing activity surrounding the Iranian threat. Under the command of Maj. Gen. Shlomi Binder, there is a continuous decision-making process in which the warning mechanisms designed to identify the possibility of an attack from Iranian territory are reviewed and validated.

Alongside Israel’s preparations, the IDF emphasizes that coordination with the U.S. military remains at the highest level, and that communication between the sides is continuous, daily, and around the clock.
