IDF Launches Surprise Drill to Test Readiness for Multi-Front Conflict

At the direction of IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, a surprise Chief of Staff readiness drill, "Dawn Rising 2.0," was launched early this morning (Sunday) to assess the alertness and preparedness of the General Staff and the IDF's principal commands, its standby forces, and its ability to handle a sudden, complex and large-scale multi-front event.

The IDF Spokesperson said the exercise is intended to assess the IDF's level of alertness and readiness for a range of unexpected operational scenarios, including activating alerts and reserves, decision-making processes, and the operational response at every level, from the regional commands, branches and directorates to the General Staff, as preparation for and to strengthen defenses ahead of the holiday season.

As part of the surprise exercise, commanders across all commands, directorates and branches were summoned, while forces are also being called up and reserves are being assessed. The Chief of Staff is reviewing and observing the management of the exercise from the senior command observation post and in the field.

It should be noted that last week, the Chief of Staff held a situation assessment ahead of the Tishrei holidays. The IDF intends to declare a leave freeze and reinforce forces across all sectors, amid concerns of escalation. The IDF is also prepared both defensively and offensively against the Iranian threat and its proxies.

The Chief of Staff said this afternoon, following a General Staff situation assessment: "We are in a tense and volatile period across all fronts, and we are preparing for the upcoming holiday season. We continue to draw lessons, and as I have defined it, the baseline condition throughout the IDF is readiness for a surprise attack."

"The exercise simulates a multi-front war and allows us to examine the IDF's readiness across all levels and formations, as well as the orders and whether they are up to date, from the General Staff level down to the units in the field. The exercise is a significant part of the IDF's preparations for the approaching holiday season."
