Israel Reviews Possible Citizenship Revocation for Creators of “Naza” Documentary

Boaz Yosef, director general of the Population and Immigration Authority, informed Culture and Sports Minister Miki Zohar today (Tuesday) that officials have begun examining the possibility of revoking the Israeli citizenship of “Naza” filmmakers Yuval Avraham and Rachel Shor. The review was launched following Zohar’s request to the authorities.

In his request, the minister asked officials to examine whether the pair’s actions could fall under grounds established by law for revoking citizenship, including breach of loyalty and aiding an enemy during wartime. At this stage, however, no decision has been made to revoke their citizenship, and the review is intended to determine whether there is any legal basis at all for pursuing such a move.

Minister Zohar also contacted Shin Bet chief David Zini and asked for a security investigation into the film’s production. The minister demanded that officials determine how the filmmakers obtained the materials and testimony they used, and whether enemy actors or hostile organizations were involved in transferring or obtaining them.

The possibility of revoking Israeli citizenship is subject to strict legal conditions and is considered an exceptional step. The process is intended, among other things, for cases in which there are grounds for a breach of loyalty to the state, and its implementation requires legal proceedings and approvals according to the circumstances.
