Manhunt Continues: Hamas Finance Chief Killed in Khan Younis

The IDF killed Muhammad Abu Alwan, Hamas’s head of finance, in Khan Younis today (Wednesday). Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed the operation in a joint statement.

The two praised the IDF and the Shin Bet "for the precise operation and the determined action to thwart our enemies." "We are continuing to pursue Hamas commanders and operatives, strike its sources of funding, and destroy its terror infrastructure. We will not allow Hamas to rebuild its strength, and we will not stop until there is no Hamas in Gaza," the statement said.

This is not the first time the IDF has killed Hamas figures connected to managing funds and securing financing for terror activity. However, Abu Alwan was a senior figure in the terror organization’s finance department, which serves as a vital channel for paying terrorists’ salaries, rebuilding tunnels, procuring and smuggling weapons, and distributing civilian resources in order to maintain control on the ground.

Abu Alwan effectively headed the network in Khan Younis, and his killing was intended to disrupt Hamas’s ability to manage resources in Gaza. Today’s killing follows the elimination two weeks ago of Muhammad Yazouri, commander of the Khan Younis Brigade in Hamas’s military wing, and the elimination of Nayel Abu Ubaid, commander of Hamas’s Rafah Brigade.
