Netanyahu: “There Are Signs Our Enemies May Try to Attack Us Ahead of the Elections”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will convene a security situation assessment this evening (Tuesday) and will also provide a security briefing to opposition leader Yair Lapid.

Earlier today, Netanyahu visited the Israeli Air Force base at Tel Nof and said: “We have signs that, ahead of the elections, our enemies will try to attack us. Don’t mess with us, not now, not ever. Our long arm will reach you anywhere and at any time.”

Following the remarks, opposition leader Yair Lapid contacted the Prime Minister’s Office late in the afternoon, demanding that an urgent security update be arranged. Lapid said he wanted “to understand whether the threats are real and, if so, how the prime minister has prepared this time to ensure that the elections take place without disruptions.”

The Prime Minister’s Office responded: “Prime Minister Netanyahu regularly holds security update meetings with opposition leader Lapid, with the most recent one taking place two weeks ago, on September 14. The prime minister instructed his military secretary to update the opposition leader today on the latest developments.”

Later, the office announced that Netanyahu and Lapid would meet today shortly before midnight. Lapid demanded that the meeting also be attended by Shin Bet chief David Zini and Central Elections Committee chair Justice Noam Sohlberg.
