The extension will remain in effect until November 3, one week after the election.
Cabinet Secretary Yossi Fuchs distributed the proposal to government ministers, who will vote on it by telephone. According to a report by Ynet, the document states that “according to security officials, there is still a high likelihood of an attack on the civilian population.” It also states that as the declaration’s expiration date approaches, the need for a further extension will be examined based on an updated security assessment. The extension is subject to approval by the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee.
The defense minister initially declared a special status on the home front on February 28, 2026, with the outbreak of the Shaagat HaAri (“Lion’s Roar”) war against Iran. Since then, the declaration has been extended through numerous government decisions. A declaration of special status on the home front allows the Home Front Command to impose restrictions, including limits on schooling and public gatherings.
