Israel’s Ministry of Defense announced on Wednesday that it has signed an agreement with the U.S. Pentagon to purchase 12 advanced Apache helicopters for the IDF, manufactured by the American company Boeing. The Director General of the Ministry of Defense, Maj. Gen. (res.) Amir Baram, instructed the ministry’s delegation in the United States to sign the deal following government approval.

Under the agreement, the helicopters, which are expected to be delivered at the beginning of the next decade, will be the “Echo” model, the newest and most advanced version of the Apache. The deal was tailored through a joint Israeli-American effort to meet Israel’s specific needs. The Ministry of Defense delegation in the United States and the ministry’s Budget Department led the formulation of the agreement and its financing framework.

Defense Minister Israel Katz said: “The purchase of the Apache helicopters is a critical step in building the IDF’s strength. It will enhance its operational capabilities against a wide range of threats and contribute to Israel’s security in the years ahead. The defense establishment invested significant effort and acted with determination to overcome the difficulties and complete the deal, based on a deep understanding of its importance in ensuring the IDF’s strength and readiness for future challenges.”

Ministry of Defense Director General Amir Baram said: “The Apache deal was made possible thanks to creative solutions that we developed together with our American partners. These solutions enabled us to bridge the gaps and meet the complex budgetary constraints facing the defense establishment without compromising operational needs.

“This professional work with the U.S. administration reflects the depth of the strategic relationship and the mutual commitment to Israel’s security. The Ministry of Defense will continue working at full pace to sign additional critical agreements, including the procurement of additional platforms, munitions, interceptors, and more.

“This is intended to ensure immediate readiness for any scenario while also advancing the implementation of the decade-long force-building plan, the ‘400 Plan,’ as part of the Ministry of Defense’s strategy for addressing emerging challenges.”
