This homemade chocolate spread is sure to become a favorite in your kitchen and is especially perfect for children’s sandwiches. The tahini gives it a rich texture, the cocoa adds a deep chocolate flavor, and the maple syrup provides natural sweetness.
Homemade Chocolate Spread
Ingredients (for one small jar)
½ cup raw tahini, well stirred
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
3–4 tablespoons maple syrup
2–5 tablespoons water, as needed
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
Instructions
In a bowl, mix together the tahini, cocoa powder, maple syrup, vanilla, and salt. Add 2 tablespoons of water and mix well. If the mixture becomes too thick, continue stirring and gradually add more water until smooth and easily spreadable.
Taste and add more maple syrup if desired. Transfer to a clean jar, seal, and store in the refrigerator.
For sandwiches, keep the spread relatively thick. If you prefer a thinner consistency, similar to chocolate sauce, add a little more water until it reaches the desired texture. After refrigeration, you can thin a small portion with a few drops of water and stir until soft and creamy again.
