A five-year-old boy from Michigan is being celebrated as a hero after his quick thinking helped save his grandmother's life when she collapsed at home.

Hudson Tan, from St. Clair County, was home with his three-year-old sister, Harper, and their grandmother, Terry, when the frightening incident occurred. When Terry suddenly lost consciousness, Hudson realized that he and his little sister were alone and needed help.

"Grandma was shaking really hard, and then she fell and didn't get up," Hudson recalled.

At first, he tried to find the keys to his grandmother's car. When he couldn't find them, he came up with another plan.

"I tried to get the keys so I could take her car, but I couldn't find them, so I ran down the road," he explained.

Hudson took Harper with him, and the two young children set off along a dirt road near a wooded area, hoping to find someone who could help.

A Brave Decision That Made All the Difference

Fortunately, a family driving nearby spotted the children and stopped.

Jason Merkel, one of the neighbors who came to their aid, said the children were walking close to the woods when they were noticed.

His son, Colton, recalled an especially touching detail: Before asking for help, Hudson made sure his little sister was safe.

"When he waved us down, he first sat his sister down at the side of the road," Colton said.

The Merkel family immediately called 911 and tried to find out what had happened.

As soon as Hudson climbed into their truck, he began explaining the situation and directing them toward his grandmother's house.

"The moment we got him into the truck and he started talking, he directed us right here," Jason recalled.

Despite being just five years old, Hudson knew exactly how to guide the adults home.

When they arrived, several dogs could be heard barking inside. Looking into the house, Jason saw Terry lying unconscious on the floor.

St. Clair County sheriff's deputies arrived and entered the home, allowing emergency medical personnel to reach Terry and begin treating her.

She was taken to the hospital, where doctors determined that she had become dehydrated.

"It just stunned me. I've never been dehydrated and nothing like this has ever happened to me," Terry said afterward.

"He's My Hero"

Terry expressed deep gratitude to everyone who helped her, describing the timing of the rescue as something more than coincidence.

"I think it was all from Above," she said. "The right people were there at the right time. Thank you also to the sheriff's office for everything."

But her greatest praise was reserved for her grandson.

"He's my hero. What five-year-old would think to do what he did? And he did it."

Although the incident took place several weeks earlier, Hudson's bravery has now received official recognition.

At a ceremony held on Wednesday, officials from the village of Cottrellville and St. Clair County sheriff's deputies presented the young boy with an award honoring his courage and quick thinking.

What began as a frightening emergency ended with a grandmother safely receiving medical care, thanks to a little boy who refused to stand by when someone he loved needed help.
