At the direction of Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, Foreign Ministry Director-General Eden Bar Tal formally rebuked Belarus’s ambassador to Israel, Yuri Yaroshevich. The move came in protest of comments by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, who said Israel "cannot talk about the Holocaust" after it is "wiping Gaza off the map."

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, a close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, lashed out at Israel. He claimed that "Gaza has been wiped off the face of the earth" and questioned Israel’s right to engage in Holocaust remembrance.
