Israel–New York Flights Canceled as US Snowstorm Disrupts East Coast Travel
Israeli and US airlines suspend multiple routes between Ben Gurion Airport and New York due to widespread weather-related cancellations at major US hubs
Ben Gurion Airport (Nati Shohat/Flash90)Israeli and American airlines have canceled multiple direct flights between Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport and New York–area airports, citing a severe snowstorm sweeping the northeastern United States.
El Al announced it canceled most of its scheduled flights between Ben Gurion and John F. Kennedy International Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport on Sunday, as well as one return flight departing from JFK on Monday. The airline said several other departures from New York and Boston were moved to earlier times in anticipation of worsening weather conditions.
“We are working to find an alternative flight for you as soon as possible,” El Al said in a statement to affected passengers, adding that customers whose flights were canceled would receive updated rebooking details.
Israeli carrier Arkia is also expected to suspend some flights on its Tel Aviv–JFK route. Arkia operates three weekly flights on the line, departing on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, but has not yet released a full breakdown of which services are being canceled or rescheduled.
US airlines operating routes to Israel were similarly affected. Delta Air Lines canceled its Sunday afternoon flight from JFK to Tel Aviv, along with its Monday return flight from Ben Gurion to New York. United Airlines also canceled several flights on its Tel Aviv–Newark route scheduled for Sunday and Monday.
The cancellations come as New York–area airports face widespread shutdowns due to heavy snow and icy conditions, forcing airlines to ground aircraft and reposition crews. While Ben Gurion Airport itself continues to operate normally, disruptions at US destinations are expected to continue to affect long-haul international flights, including Israel-bound routes.
Passengers traveling between Israel and the northeastern United States are advised to check airline updates and prepare for continued schedule changes over the coming days.
