Tryptophan is an amino acid that acts as a natural mood regulator. It helps the body produce and balance key hormones, supporting emotional calm and promoting better sleep at night. It may assist with issues like anxiety, low mood, and even sugar cravings, and has been studied in connection with attention challenges, migraines, and more.
Most importantly, tryptophan plays a central role in producing serotonin, often called the “happiness hormone,” which contributes to feelings of calm and well-being. It also helps produce melatonin, the hormone responsible for sleep.
The Missing Balance in Modern Life
In the past, people lived in harmony with natural light. They woke with sunrise and slept after sunset, allowing melatonin to function properly.
Today, that balance has been disrupted. Artificial lighting and screens have turned us into night owls, interfering with melatonin production. Some researchers suggest that this disruption may contribute to many modern health issues.

Mash 2 ripe bananas in a bowl.
Add 2 eggs and 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract, then mix well.
Stir in half a cup of oats, and optionally a little cinnamon.
Cook small portions in a hot pan until golden on both sides.
Serve with sliced bananas, berries, nuts, or a drizzle of real maple syrup. For a treat, you can also add chocolate chips to the batter.
