A Passover Starter You’ll Crave: Chicken Liver & Chestnut Spread

A rich and creamy homemade chicken liver spread, delicious with matzah, and simple to prepare ahead

Ingredients

  • 14 oz (400 g) roasted chicken liver

  • 1 package vacuum-packed chestnuts

  • 3½ oz (100 g) almonds (about ¾ cup)

  • 1 onion

  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar

  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise (homemade if preferred)

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Sauté the onion:
    Finely chop the onion and sauté until golden.

  2. Blend the mixture:
    In a food processor, combine the roasted chicken liver, chestnuts, almonds, sautéed onion, brown sugar, mayonnaise, salt, and pepper. Blend until smooth and spreadable.

  3. Chill:
    Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving to allow flavors to develop.

Serving Suggestion

Serve alongside matzah and homemade jam for a rich and flavorful spread.
