Trump on Strike Hitting Haifa Oil Refineries: 'You'll see my response soon'

U.S. President Donald Trump weighed in Monday night (Israel time) on the Iranian strike on the Haifa refineries: "You'll soon find out what my response is to the attack on Israel's oil facilities." As for negotiations with the Iranians, he added: "Within a week we'll know whether we can work with Iranian parliament speaker Qalibaf".

The U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, also addressed the ongoing fighting. In a conversation with "Al Jazeera" he said: "The United States will not agree to Tehran's demand for sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz. Recognizing Iran's sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz is unacceptable to us. It creates a dangerous precedent that allows countries to seize international sea lanes".

Rubio added: "The Strait of Hormuz will reopen one way or another after the operation in Iran ends. If Iran chooses to close the Strait of Hormuz after the conclusion of the military operation, it will face severe consequences".

Senior Iranian officials killed

Iran's "Fars" news agency reported that Ali Khosravi, an intelligence officer in the Revolutionary Guards, was killed in a targeted strike. The report described Khosravi as one of "the unknown soldiers of the Hidden Imam"—a common Iranian term for intelligence and security personnel who operate in secrecy, and therefore no official details about his rank or exact position were published.

Additionally, several Arab media outlets reported today that Hassan Hasanzadeh, commander of the Revolutionary Guards' "Mohammad Rasul Allah" Corps, was killed in an airstrike attributed to Israel and the United States. Hasanzadeh, holding the rank of brigadier general, was the central figure responsible for securing the Iranian capital, and for the violent suppression of popular protests in recent years. He was called by Iranian opposition figures "the Butcher of Tehran".
