The IDF Spokesperson said this evening (Wednesday) that troops from the 401st Brigade, operating in southern Lebanon, eliminated the attacker who killed Maj. (res.) Itamar Sapir, z"l, a week ago.

As previously reported, last Tuesday, during an encounter between IDF forces in the Qawzah area of southern Lebanon, an attacker opened fire from the area of a church toward a force from the 401st Brigade. As a result of the shooting, Maj. (res.) Sapir, 27, a company commander in the Maglan unit, was killed.

Immediately after the incident, brigade fighters under the command of Division 146 returned fire and acted to eliminate the attacker. It can now be confirmed that the attacker who killed the IDF officer was eliminated through tank fire and a targeted Israeli Air Force strike, after he was identified entering a building in the church area.
