Ingredients
7–8 pieces of fruit, such as:
Apples
Pears
Nectarines
Plums
Grapes
Or any combination you enjoy
8 cups water
½ cup sugar
Instructions
Prepare the Syrup
In a large pot, bring the water and sugar to a boil.
Stir until the sugar has completely dissolved.
Add the Fruit
Cut the fruit into cubes or thick slices.
Add the fruit to the pot.
Bring the mixture back to a boil.
Cook the Compote
Reduce the heat to low or medium-low.
Simmer until the fruit becomes tender, about 30 minutes.
Cool and Chill
Remove the pot from the heat.
Allow the compote to cool naturally to room temperature.
Transfer it to the refrigerator and chill overnight for the best flavor.
Optional: Thicker Compote
If you prefer a thicker, more syrupy sauce, add 4 tablespoons of flavored gelatin powder (any flavor you like) after about 10 minutes of cooking. Stir well until dissolved.
