Fruit compote is a simple, comforting dessert made from gently cooked fresh fruit. It's delicious served warm or chilled and can be enjoyed on its own, over yogurt, alongside cake, or as a light and refreshing treat.

Ingredients

  • 7–8 pieces of fruit, such as:

    • Apples

    • Pears

    • Nectarines

    • Plums

    • Grapes

    • Or any combination you enjoy

  • 8 cups water

  • ½ cup sugar

Instructions

Prepare the Syrup

  1. In a large pot, bring the water and sugar to a boil.

  2. Stir until the sugar has completely dissolved.

Add the Fruit

  1. Cut the fruit into cubes or thick slices.

  2. Add the fruit to the pot.

  3. Bring the mixture back to a boil.

Cook the Compote

  1. Reduce the heat to low or medium-low.

  2. Simmer until the fruit becomes tender, about 30 minutes.

Cool and Chill

  1. Remove the pot from the heat.

  2. Allow the compote to cool naturally to room temperature.

  3. Transfer it to the refrigerator and chill overnight for the best flavor.

Optional: Thicker Compote

If you prefer a thicker, more syrupy sauce, add 4 tablespoons of flavored gelatin powder (any flavor you like) after about 10 minutes of cooking. Stir well until dissolved.

Serving Suggestions

Serve chilled or slightly warm:

  • As a light dessert

  • Over yogurt or cottage cheese

  • With ice cream

  • Alongside sponge cake or pound cake

  • As a sweet breakfast topping

This easy fruit compote is a wonderful way to enjoy seasonal fruit and create a naturally sweet, refreshing dessert the whole family will love.
