Inside the Tunnel Threat: Maps Found on Beaufort Ridge Show the Danger Facing Northern Israeli Communities

Forces from the IDF’s 36th Division are continuing operations to clear the tunnel network and underground infrastructure built with Iranian funding and support in southern Lebanon. In one of the routes, maps were found on the tunnel walls illustrating the enemy’s deployment and the threat that had been planned against the communities of the Galilee Panhandle.

The IDF is continuing its broad operation to clear the underground tunnel network beneath the Beaufort Ridge in southern Lebanon, as part of efforts to remove threats to northern communities and achieve operational control of the area. The forces operating as part of the 36th Division are currently deepening their activity in the underground compound, which was built and planned over the years and funded by the Iranian terror regime, the IDF Spokesperson updated this evening (*Shabbat*).

According to the IDF statement, the tunnel network in the Beaufort area is considered a significant hub of Hezbollah activity in the region. The current operation is intended to enable the forces to achieve full operational control of the area and to bring about the destruction of the underground infrastructure, which poses a direct threat to the citizens of the State of Israel and to the border communities in the north.

During operations in one of the underground routes, where several days ago terrorists who tried to flee the area were located and eliminated in an airstrike, the forces came across an unusual finding. On one of the tunnel walls, maps were found that were intended to illustrate control of the area over the northern communities.

The maps, documented by the forces, were found inside the underground compound where the terrorists had been operating. The IDF noted that these findings reflect the importance of the area for the terror operatives active there, and the way the northern communities were viewed as part of the broader operational picture.

IDF Spokesperson emphasized that "The IDF launched this operation in order to achieve operational control of the area that poses a threat to the citizens of the State of Israel and to enable the destruction of the tunnel network."
