A ceremony was held today (Wednesday) at Israel’s Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem to sign the agreement allocating the site where the permanent building of the United States Embassy in Israel will be constructed. Senior Israeli and American officials took part in the event, led by U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee and Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar.

In his remarks, Huckabee addressed the Iranian threat and made clear that "Iran’s threat isn’t only against Israel, but against every American citizen." He said the alliance between Jerusalem and Washington is built on shared values and a long-standing commitment, adding that the United States continues to stand with Israel.

Later in his speech, Huckabee shared details of a conversation he had with President Donald Trump about the decision to move the American embassy to Jerusalem: "I asked President Trump why he decided to move the embassy to Jerusalem, and he answered: I said I would do it, and it was the right thing to do. We are telling the world: we stand with Israel. We are proud of our partnership with the Jewish people and the citizens of Israel."

The ambassador added that signing the agreement marks another step in deepening the American presence in Israel’s capital. In his words, ”The United States not only recognizes Jerusalem as the eternal capital of the Jewish people, it is also planting the American flag on Jerusalem soil with a new permanent embassy." During his speech, Huckabee held up a one-dollar bill and showed it to those in attendance, while revealing that the lease agreement for the land was signed for a period of 99 years: "The lease for the land is for 99 years, and the U.S. will pay Israel the sum of 1 dollar."

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar also spoke about the strategic importance of the relationship between the two countries, emphasizing that cooperation between Israel and the United States is crucial for both sides: "Israel is the United States’ most important strategic asset in the Middle East. Just as the United States is vital and irreplaceable for Israel, Israel is vital to the United States and its interests in this region."
