U.S. Military Says Remains Found in Search for Missing Soldier in Jordan; Another Soldier Killed in Iraq

U.S. Central Command announced overnight (between Sunday and Monday) a significant development in the search for the American soldier who has been missing since the Iranian attack on a U.S. base in Jordan on July 17. According to the military statement, unidentified remains were found during searches at the attack site, and a review process is now underway to determine whether they belong to the missing soldier.

Central Command emphasized that the identification process is still ongoing, and for that reason no additional details have been released at this stage. So far, it is known that two American soldiers were killed in the attack, while a third soldier was listed as missing. The U.S. military said the identities of the dead and the missing soldier will not be released until the notification process for their families has been completed.

At the same time, Central Command also provided an update on another incident in which an American soldier was killed. According to the military statement, on July 18, a soldier was killed in northern Iraq during a controlled explosion of unexploded ordnance from a one-way Iranian attack drone that had been shot down earlier. In the same incident, another soldier was lightly wounded and continues to receive medical treatment.

As the search for the missing soldier continues and the fighting in the region expands, other countries in the Middle East are also facing security threats. Shortly after the Central Command announcement, Kuwait's military said the country's air defense systems were operating to intercept attacks by hostile missiles and unmanned aircraft.
