Footage of the attackNew footage from the attack that took place in Susiya two days ago reveals the moments of the violent assault during which the weapon of an IDF soldier was taken. The soldier had gone out to herd sheep while on leave. This morning (Monday), one of the suspects in the incident turned himself in to the Palestinian security forces.
The video captures the beginning of the incident and presents a different picture from the one reflected in the initial report by the security establishment. While it was first assessed as a "friction incident," the footage shows that the assailant approached the soldier directly and tried to seize his weapon at the very start of the confrontation, in a way that points to a planned attack.
Later in the footage, a struggle can be seen between the two, after which additional Palestinians join at the scene. According to the footage, they beat the soldier and take his weapon. At the end of the video, the assailant is seen aiming the weapon at the soldier and then fleeing the scene. During the attack, the soldier was seriously injured in the head as a result of the blows inflicted by the attackers.
A day before the attack in Susiya, two Israelis were killed near Havat Gilad in Samaria, after a Palestinian seized the weapon of a security officer who had arrived to help during a confrontation between a group of Israeli hikers and Palestinians.
