Germany Finds 21 Explosive Devices Near Energy Infrastructure
German police bomb squads defused the devices found near the Graustein site in the Görlitz district of eastern Germany. A week ago, Germany accused Russia of attempting to target a power station with drones.
Prosecutors in the eastern German state of Saxony told the media today (Monday) that authorities had found 21 explosive devices as part of their investigation into attacks on the power grid that came to light about a week ago.
According to a Reuters report, nine homemade explosive devices were found over the weekend near high-voltage power lines south of the Graustein substation in the Görlitz district of eastern Germany, bringing the total number discovered over the past week to 21.
As previously reported, Germany announced a week ago that it had been the target of an attempt to damage critical electricity infrastructure, following a series of sabotage incidents on the power grid after a drone attack in Leipzig/Halle. German officials accused Russia of being behind the attempted sabotage.
German police said Friday that they are searching for a man who sent letters claiming responsibility for last week's series of sabotage attacks on the power grid, after what appeared to be explosive materials were found at his home. The man remains at large.
