Norway’s Prime Minister: Zelensky’s Plane Was “Nearly Hit” by a Drone

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Oslo ahead of King Harald’s funeral after an unusual incident en route from Moldova. Norway’s prime minister revealed that his plane was nearly struck by a drone: “This is the reality he faces.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to Norway began with a dramatic event: The plane carrying him to Oslo was nearly hit by a drone shortly after taking off from Moldova. Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre revealed this Wednesday evening in an interview with NRK.

Zelensky arrived in the Norwegian capital last night ahead of King Harald’s funeral. According to Støre, the unusual incident took place during the flight from Moldova. However, he provided no further details about the circumstances and did not say how close the drone came to the Ukrainian president’s plane.

“This is the reality he faces,” Norway’s prime minister said, referring to the incident and the security reality surrounding Zelensky amid the war in Ukraine.

Shortly after arriving in Oslo last night, Zelensky met with Støre, Norway’s finance minister, Jens Stoltenberg, and Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide. This morning, the Norwegian prime minister welcomed him at his office, and the two also discussed the latest developments in Ukraine.

Støre said: “I asked how the night had gone, and he said it had not been a good night, because he was on the phone receiving information about the places where the missiles had hit,” Støre told NRK. The Norwegian prime minister added that the situation in Ukraine is “very dramatic.”
