UK Suspects Iran Behind Foiled Bomb Plot at Military Airfield

British media reported Sunday evening that local security officials believe Iran may be behind the foiled attack at the military airfield, where U.S. military aircraft are stationed. Other possibilities are also being investigated.

U.S. President Donald Trump addressed the arrest of the terror suspects in Britain on Sunday evening: "They planned a significant attack. They tried to cause major damage to our 'fortress.' They had been under our surveillance for a long time, and we caught them."

Trump also commented on the coordination with British security forces: "The arrests in Britain were great. The work with Britain was amazing."

As reported earlier today, the incident took place in southwest England, near RAF Fairford, where American forces are stationed and U.S. Air Force bombers are hosted.

Gloucestershire Police said the incident was centered around the village of Welford, near the base. Residents were evacuated from their homes and taken to a sports and recreation center, while an army bomb-disposal expert team was called to the scene and is examining several vehicles.

The Daily Mail reported that a "Delta" alert, the highest level in the U.S. military, was declared at the base, and bomb-disposal personnel suspected the vehicles may have been car bombs. Five suspects were arrested at the end of the security operation.
