Ahead of Election Week: IDF Prepares for Possible Leave Freeze

An alert order has been issued to additional ground forces ahead of election week. The IDF is weighing a freeze on soldiers’ leave as a precaution, not in response to any specific warning.

The IDF Spokesperson said on Sunday evening that “as part of an ongoing situational assessment in the IDF, across all combat arenas, an alert order has been issued placing an additional ground force on standby. A decision on the matter has not yet been finalized and will be made later this week.”

According to a military source, the decision was made as part of the preparations for election week. The IDF is weighing the possibility of freezing soldiers’ leave. In the source’s words, the move is “not because of an immediate, specific warning, but out of readiness and alertness given the sensitivity of this period.”

Last week, the IDF announced that it is preparing both defensively and offensively, out of concern that Iran will try to disrupt the elections. The IDF is prepared in all arenas.

Meanwhile, residents of Kiryat Shmona and the Galilee communities were informed on Sunday evening that the IDF will carry out strikes in Lebanon in the coming hours, and that explosions will be heard in the area as a result. There are no special instructions for the public.

Earlier, reports in Lebanon described IDF strikes in the Wadi al-Hujeir area and the al-Qantara area, both in southern Lebanon.
