Extreme Weather

As much of the world battles extreme heat and wildfires, Antarctica has recorded one of Earth’s lowest temperatures in more than a decade.

An estimated 10,000 people have died as extreme heat grips Europe, with soaring temperatures fueling wildfires, power outages, and widespread health emergencies.

At least 11 people have been killed as devastating storms, mudslides, and tornadoes sweep across China. Rescue operations continue while another powerful super typhoon heads toward the country's eastern coast, raising fears of further destruction.

The World Meteorological Organization warns an unusually strong El Niño is likely to develop by midyear, accelerating global warming and unleashing extreme heat waves, severe storms, and droughts worldwide.
