Thirty Democratic members of the U.S. House of Representatives are demanding that President Donald Trump disclose any information the administration holds about whether Israel has nuclear weapons. This was reported overnight (between Tuesday and Wednesday) in the "Washington Post".

Members of Congress, most from the far-left wing of the Democratic Party, argue that the administration is violating a law that requires it to disclose details about "allies." In their words, "American silence on the matter is indefensible in light of the war with Iran. The same transparency standards Americans expect from other countries should apply to Israel."

According to the report, the unusual move is intended to challenge Israel's longstanding policy of ambiguity, which has received continuous and critical American backing for decades. The Democratic members of Congress seek to use laws related to oversight of foreign aid in order to force the administration to officially acknowledge the existence of nuclear capabilities in Israel's possession.

It was also reported that the assessment is that the Trump administration will not respond positively to the demand. The "Washington Post" noted that for years Israel, along with many American officials, has argued that revealing the capabilities would harm Israel's deterrence and the security alliance between the two countries.
