Ingredients
200 g (7 oz) butter
(For a dairy-free version, use butter-flavored margarine.)3 cups all-purpose flour
½ cup sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Optional Decoration
1 egg white
Colored sprinkles or decorating sugar
Instructions
Prepare the Dough
Remove the butter from the refrigerator a little before baking so it can soften slightly.
Cut the butter into cubes.
Place all the ingredients in a large bowl.
Mix and knead until a smooth dough forms.
Chill the Dough (Optional)
For easier rolling and shaping, wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 1 hour.
This step is recommended but not essential.
Roll and Cut
Lightly flour a work surface.
Roll out the dough into an even sheet.
Use cookie cutters to cut circles or any desired shapes.
Transfer the cookies to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Decorate (Optional)
For decorated cookies:
Brush the tops lightly with egg white.
Sprinkle with colored sugar or decorative sprinkles.
Bake
Preheat the oven to 160°C (320°F).
Bake for approximately 10 minutes, or until the cookies are lightly golden.
Baking times may vary slightly depending on your oven.
Cool and Serve
Allow the cookies to cool completely before serving.
