(Photo: shutterstock)These classic tahini cookies are rich, buttery, and wonderfully tender, with a delicate nutty flavor that pairs perfectly with coffee or tea. Made with simple pantry ingredients, they're easy to prepare and have a beautiful crackled texture that makes them as attractive as they are delicious.
Ingredients
200 g (7 oz) butter or margarine
2½ cups all-purpose flour
2 packets vanilla sugar
1 cup high-quality raw tahini
1 cup sugar
1 packet baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For Decorating
Almonds
Pecans
Hazelnuts
Sesame seeds
For Serving
Powdered sugar
Instructions
Prepare the Dough
Place all the ingredients in a large mixing bowl.
Mix until the dough becomes smooth, soft, and slightly sticky.
Shape the Cookies
Roll the dough into small balls.
Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Important: These cookies spread significantly during baking, so leave plenty of space between each dough ball.
Add the Topping
Decorate each cookie with:
One almond, pecan, or hazelnut, or
A sprinkle of sesame seeds
Bake
Preheat the oven to 170°C (340°F).
Bake for exactly 10 minutes — no longer.
Even if the cookies appear slightly underbaked, remove them from the oven. They should remain very soft and develop a lightly cracked surface.
Cool Completely
Allow the cookies to cool completely on the baking tray before moving them.
Removing them too early may cause them to crumble.
Serve
Just before serving, dust the cookies lightly with powdered sugar.
Storage Tip
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for several days. The cookies remain soft and flavorful, making them perfect for preparing ahead of time.
Enjoy these delicate tahini cookies with a cup of coffee, tea, or as a sweet treat any time of day.
