The Netherlands Approves a Sweeping Ban on Imports From Jewish Communities in the West Bank

The Dutch government officially confirmed today (Tuesday) that beginning on September 22, 2026, a sweeping ban will take effect on the import, purchase, and sale of products originating in Israeli communities in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

In a statement, the Dutch government said the decision was formulated בעקבות חוות דעת של מועצת המדינה ההולנדית, and is meant to prevent Dutch economic activity from contributing to what the government in The Hague defines as an "illegal occupation."

As previously reported, when new Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten took office this past February, he reversed the previous government’s pro-Israel policy. In May, he announced his intention to ban imports of Israeli products made in the West Bank.

It is worth noting that the Netherlands is considered one of Israel’s key trading partners in Europe, and is regarded as one of the leading buyers of Israeli goods. The Dutch decision came about two weeks after a majority of European Union foreign ministers, led by the Czech Republic and Germany, blocked a proposal to impose sanctions on Israel.
