i24NEWS team attacked in Belfast while reporting on antisemitism

An i24NEWS news crew was attacked last week in Belfast, Northern Ireland, while working on a report about the rise of antisemitism around the world. A man who identified reporter Yonatan Raveh and cameraman Nadav Abbas as Israelis attacked the two, leaving Abbas with a head injury.

The attack took place while the two were conducting interviews in the city’s nightlife district as part of the report. At one point, a man who recognized the crew members as Israeli interfered with the filming and tried to grab their camera equipment.

After failing to take control of the equipment, the attacker continued disrupting the filming. He also made obscene gestures in front of the camera, prompting the crew to stop recording altogether. Raveh and Abbas tried to calm the situation and move away, but the man continued advancing toward them in a threatening manner.

The two then sought help from security staff at nearby bars. According to i24NEWS, the attacker grabbed a large beer glass and threw it at Abbas, striking him in the head and causing a bleeding wound.

Following the attack, the crew left the scene. Abbas did not require medical treatment beyond first aid, and both crew members were in stable condition. Shortly afterward, they left Northern Ireland and returned to Israel.

Raveh is producing an ongoing documentary series examining the rise of antisemitism around the world. He produced similar projects in Spain and New York, which were broadcast on i24NEWS’s main news program and its international channels. The Belfast installment is the third in the series.

The crew captured the entire incident on camera, with the situation rapidly escalating from a routine interview to a violent attack after the assailant identified the crew members as Israeli. No further details about the attacker’s identity have been released, and it is not known whether local authorities have opened an investigation.
