U.S. to Sell Weapons to South Korea; North Korea Warns: 'We Will Respond to Any American Aggression'

North Korea’s Foreign Ministry on Thursday condemned the U.S. decision to approve the sale of missiles and related equipment to South Korea. North Korea’s state-run KCNA news agency reported that the government said: "We have once again identified the United States’ open approach of always being hostile toward North Korea. We will respond firmly and immediately to hostile actions in various areas."

According to Reuters, North Korea’s statement comes after U.S. President Donald Trump renewed his outreach to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, expressed interest in another meeting, and said this month that Kim had responded to his overture. According to the report, North Korea has shown little official willingness to resume talks.

The U.S. State Department announced the sale of AIM-9X Sidewinder tactical air-to-air missiles and related equipment worth $125 million to South Korea. North Korea claims that the missiles "constitute a new threat to North Korea’s security environment."

North Korea also criticized an American plan to fund activities related to documenting its human rights situation and gathering information about the country, describing the efforts as part of a campaign intended to create instability within its social system.
