Trump: “We Have Full Security Control Over Greenland”

U.S. President Donald Trump announced overnight (between Friday and Shabbat, Israel time) on the social network Truth Social that he had reached a historic agreement with Denmark granting the United States full security control over the island of Greenland.

In his statement, Trump wrote: “We worked with representatives of Denmark and Greenland to ensure that the United States will forever have the full ability to do what is necessary to guarantee the security of Greenland and America. No U.S. adversary will ever be able to establish a base in Greenland, maintain a military presence there, or invest in its territory without our explicit written approval.”

“For more than 100 years, U.S. presidents have been aware of Greenland’s strategic importance, but none of them did anything. I am proud to be the president who addressed this important issue. The agreement has ‘eternal validity’; it has no end! Everything agreed upon today will be greatly appreciated by the American people. We will immediately begin developing our military presence in Greenland; there are many suitable areas. We will work in cooperation with the island’s residents on development and construction efforts. This solution is excellent for the United States, Denmark, Greenland, and all our allies. We will work together with the people of Denmark and Greenland toward a bright future.”

The American president added: “This is a large piece of land of the highest strategic importance. We will protect it fiercely. It is a dream come true for the United States of America. A very important, historic, and special dream.”

Denmark confirmed Trump’s announcement and said the countries would formally sign the agreement on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in the coming week.

Previously, Trump had proposed buying Greenland from Denmark. The Danes objected. It should be noted that Greenland is the world’s largest island and is located in a strategic position. Trump argued that if control of the sea routes around it fell into Russian hands, it would endanger the United States, and because Denmark and Europe lack a real ability to defend it, it must become American. The island is also very rich in untapped mineral resources.
