Trump: 'Iran Has Pushed Things Too Far'; Tehran Says It Is Ready for War to Resume

U.S. President Donald Trump said today (Sunday) in a phone interview with Channel 12 that he expects further talks with Iran to take place later this week, in another effort to reach an agreement. “They want to make a deal, but it’s not the deal I want to make. It’s a deal we might have agreed to a year ago. They have pushed things too far,” he said. Asked whether he is considering resuming strikes against Iran, the president replied: “I always think about it.”

It should be noted that yesterday Trump rejected Iran’s latest proposal, which called for talks to focus on the Strait of Hormuz and lifting the U.S. naval blockade, without discussing the other issues, including the nuclear program.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said today in an interview with NBC that Iran is prepared for the possibility of a “doomsday war.” According to him, “Iran is prepared to resume fighting, even if it leads to a world war. Iran will not back down from its conditions regarding the Strait of Hormuz. The conditions we presented were conveyed to the American side through mediators. We saw the first response from the U.S. president, but the mediators have not yet conveyed anything to us.” Still, Araghchi stressed that Tehran remains interested in peace and a diplomatic solution.

At the same time, 10 countries continue to operate flights to and from Iran, declining the U.S. request to halt all flights to the country. They are China, Russia, Turkey, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Armenia, Belarus, Tajikistan, Vietnam, and Malaysia.
