Woman Makes Surprising Discovery Inside $35 Thrifted Handbag
A vintage shopper made an incredible discovery inside a $35 flea market handbag. Four mysterious red envelopes held an unexpected surprise.

What started as an ordinary flea market purchase turned into an unexpected surprise for a 27-year-old vintage enthusiast from Iowa, who discovered that her $35 secondhand handbag contained more than ten times what she had paid for it.
Autumn Busking is an avid vintage collector who visits flea markets at least once a week, always hoping to come across an interesting find. But during a recent trip to New York, she had no idea that a small black handbag would turn out to be her most surprising purchase yet.
"It was already toward the end of my visit to New York," Busking recalled. "Suddenly I saw a stand loaded with handbags, but one of them, small and black, caught my eye."
Busking, who particularly enjoys collecting secondhand handbags, thought the bag might be from the luxury fashion brand Coach.
When she asked the seller how much it cost, she was pleasantly surprised to hear the price: just $35.
She bought it without hesitation, unaware that an even bigger surprise was waiting inside.
An Unexpected Discovery Hidden in the Bag
During the bus ride home, Busking began examining her new purchase, opening the compartments and searching for a label that might confirm whether it was an authentic Coach handbag.
That's when she noticed something unusual.
"Suddenly I saw something red and folded, which looked like a folded letter in one of the compartments," she explained.
Curious, she pulled it out and unfolded it.
But it wasn't a letter.
Hidden inside the handbag were four red envelopes, each containing a $100 bill.
In total, Busking had discovered $400 in cash inside a bag that had cost her just $35.
The unexpected find left her astonished, and she decided to share the story on social media.
The Meaning Behind the Mysterious Red Envelopes
After Busking posted about her discovery, followers began explaining the cultural significance of the red envelopes.
Known as hongbao in Mandarin or ang bao in some other Chinese dialects, these envelopes are traditionally used to give money as gifts during celebrations and special occasions, including Lunar New Year and weddings.
In Chinese culture, red is associated with good fortune, happiness, and prosperity, making the envelopes a meaningful way to offer blessings and good wishes.
"Chinese people give gifts for special occasions or holidays in red envelopes, because in Chinese tradition the color red is associated with good luck, joy and prosperity," Busking explained.
"Of course, I only learned that after I posted about my discovery."
Her story quickly attracted attention online, turning a simple secondhand shopping trip into a viral moment.
For Busking, the experience was a reminder that flea markets can hold unexpected surprises. She had set out hoping to find a beautiful vintage handbag, but ended up discovering a hidden $400 bonus and learning something new about a cultural tradition along the way.
