Officials in Jerusalem and Washington believe Hezbollah has stepped up its fire toward northern Israel in an effort to sabotage direct negotiations between Israel and Lebanon. Delegations from both countries met yesterday at the Pentagon and agreed to hold another meeting later this week.

The IDF cleared for publication that Staff Sgt. Michael Tyukin, a Givati reconnaissance soldier from Ashkelon, was killed in a Hezbollah explosive drone strike in southern Lebanon. Four other soldiers were lightly wounded in the incident in which Tyukin fell.

Arab media say Hezbollah, frustrated after failing to slow IDF operations, is threatening a return to 1980s-style tactics and may deploy suicide bombers against Israeli troops.
